Not for large volume of trays, June 3, 2011 This review is from: FD%2D1020 Digital Pro Food Dehydrator with Cookbook (Electronics) I used the FD-1010 for 20 years with 15 trays making beef jerky, after going through several lower units on the 1010 due to the marinade leaking into the bottom and rusting it out I jumped on this one as having the heating element on top would solve that problem, it seemed to be a superior design.
In use though it will only dry 6 trays without rotation, the 1010 never required rotation of the trays, probably because heat rises, with fifteen trays we had to rotate the trays several times throughout the drying cycle, it just doesn't have the heat or air flow to properly dry the lower trays, it says capable of using 20 trays but it certainly can not, there was also a recall on the unit I had so I tried out the replacement unit prior to coming to this conclusion just in case I had a defective unit. 3 stars because it does work with limited trays. I have also provided this feedback to the company as I have always been pleased with their products even though I wore them out with heavy... Read more
