Excalibur 5 - Tray Dehydrator Reviews
26 of 26 people found the following review helpful Outstanding and Addicting!, December 28, 2008 By Pescetarian (DFW, TX) - See all my reviews This review is from: Excalibur 5 - Tray Dehydrator (Misc.) I researched dehydrators for almost 3 months before making a purchase, and asked a LOT of people what features they liked or disliked about their dehydrator. I discovered that the round ones, although seemingly popular (and cheaper) will not dry evenly because the fan is at the bottom, so if you have too many things on the bottom it will not let the proper amount of air above to dry the things on the upper levels - which is a MAJOR drawback! Also lots of the smaller kinds of dehydrators do not have self-timers, which I really wanted because when you're drying something for anywhere from 8 to 24 hours, you don't want to have to remember to check on it to turn it off! Another thing some people mentioned were that some smaller types can be quite noisy, which I wanted to try to avoid as much as possible. There were a few other drawbacks to the smaller and/or cheaper models, but I can't remember them now as it's been several months. One of the things that really caught my attention on the... Read more
11 of 11 people found the following review helpful Fantastic!!, September 20, 2008 This review is from: Excalibur 5 - Tray Dehydrator (Misc.) The Excalibur far exceeds my expectations! I have been using the "round" dehydrators for years, and while they a great for the price, you get what you pay for. I generally like to make a lot dried foods at once, with round dehydrators I was constantly swapping trays in an attempt to get everything to dry at the same rate. With the Excalibur the process is simple, about half way though the drying process I rotate trays 180 degrees and it has always come out perfect. I could not be more satisfied.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful Great workhorse dehydrator., October 11, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Excalibur 5 - Tray Dehydrator (Misc.) Love this dehydrator. I do wish I hadn't been so cheap and had shelled out a few dollars more for the Excalibur with the timer, but I've adjusted. So far I've dehydrated soaked oatmeal to make granola, sprouts for sprout flour, mushrooms, apples and carrots. Wonderful results. My only complaint is not about the dehydrator, hence the five stars. It's about the condition in which it arrived. Having never purchased a dehydrator on-line before, maybe this is the way they all arrive, but I unpacked the box and removed the dehydrator. Looking inside the dehydrator, I saw that the five trays were all askew and bent. Fortunately, the trays are somewhat flexible and they straightened out immediately after removing them. But this is what I had to do to remove the trays from the dehydrator: I had to brace my feet on either side of the dehydrator to remove the initial tray. The other trays followed more easily. I'm not sure if the dehydrator was jostled during shipping or what. All... Read more
